Blantyre and The Scamp were determined to make the pace true and took the early lead from Glenalmond. After 4 furlongs Boulet took up the running and maintained his lead until the Red House, closely followed by Leolinus, but with Apology going ominously well. Indeed, fully half a mile from home the crowd were shouting 'Apology wins it' and she duly obliged by 1 1/2 lengths from Leolinus in 3 minutes 16 seconds, with Trent fully 5 lengths back in third. She was a most accomplished filly, winning the 1000 Guineas, the Oaks and the Coronation Stakes at Ascot. Over Round 104%
